And here I am. Since June of 2011, in some cases even earlier, I have been studying for my SSC exams. It’s been a long while. Study, study and study. It’s been boring, lengthy, and above all, exhausting.

As you can imagine, so much study didn’t leave any time for writing. So I didn’t get to write any new blog articles in those months, and I was also forced to put my novel back on hold for another year (it’s been in development for right about three years).

Still, whenever I got free time, I wrote. That happened in September and December, when I wrote How to Master Clarity in Writing and How to Write an Essay — Part I respectively. Then January came and my study time increased feverishly. Suddenly in vain I tried to look for free time and when it came, for hours only, I was too tired to write. My writing didn’t have strength. So I did the only thing that was to be done… I put Writers’ Treasure on hold for a few months until the SSC examinations would end (which would be held in March).

The great thing is that even though I stopped writing, Writers’ Treasure still received two new articles from guests. I was proud to publish the two brilliant guest posts and you can read them from the homepage or the archives.

And then March came and my SSC exams started. March passed in a bit of a blur. I had to write my papers for twenty and a half hours combined. But that’s all over now. What had to happen happened: my exams finished on March 28, 2012.

That leaves us to…. holidays. Yes, you read it right. I finally have free time to myself, and that means Writers’ Treasure is now on. Or on. Or ON. The capitals are just for emphasis, but I’m not sorry for them.

So what does that leave in store for you all? A lot of things. Let’s look them over one by one:

Anyone can write an essay, right?

Of course anyone can.

Anyone can write an essay — it is true. Even a 10-year-old can write one (well, I wrote them in school those days). But how about writing a good essay. A good essay is effective. It has a purpose. It is written with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. It has an idea in it. And it is a pleasure to read.

In An Introduction to Academic Writing I wrote some pointers on how to write essays. Let’s face it, though, they were very basic and those tips were, after all, just an ‘introduction.’ How about the full stuff?

So how do you write these types of essays? Is it insanely hard? Or ridiculously easy?

Hey everyone, I’m back. At least, for some time. I’m sorry for not writing for so long, but the thing is, these examinations never really leave you in peace. I have to study for the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) Examinations which are going to happen in March 2012; and as you might imagine, there is a lot to study, which is why I couldn’t update this site up till now. In an ideal world, I would update it every week, now even every month isn’t looking too sure.

Still, I will definitely update whenever I get some time. And after all, quality is more important than quantity, right? So therefore you can still await those superb articles filled to the brim with writing tips (all right, all right, enough bragging).

I actually lost the draft of this post before, due to Human Error and a false trust on Windows Live Writer (seriously, Microsoft). And everyone knows it’s quite difficult to write again once you’ve lost your writing, and the flair is not there. Still I will be trying my best. (Windows Live Writer was deprecated with the launch of Windows 8, a year after this article was originally published).

Now, on with the show!

Writers’ block is common. In fact, it’s so common that there have been countless posts on how to avoid it, and how to cure it if it’s there already.

Some people say there is no such thing as writers’ block. It’s just an excuse for procrastination. After all, these people say, how many other professions are there in which one can say he can’t work because he has a block? Is there a bricklayers’ block or something? Are we missing something?

I think we can all safely say that there is a thing called writers’ block. It’s not the same for everyone. Some people may be so talented or get extremely lucky to the point that they don’t get writers’ block, ever. That’s a good thing. But the vast majority of writers have had to face writers’ block at least once in their career. At least once, they were attacked by it. But they managed to fight it, and defeat it well too. Can we do the same?

What a silly question. Yes, you heard it right: the answer is a loud “Yes!”.

What you think is easy to grasp may not be easy to grasp.

What you think is easy to understand may not be easy to understand for other people.

What they think is easy could be hard for others, and vice versa.

You write at a level comfortable for you. For you, it is good. For you, it is suitable as well as satisfactory. You don’t want to make any changes to it.

But what if you discovered that some of your readers may not be understanding your content (or, maybe they found it too simple on the other hand)? What if they may be confused with it? And worse, what if, as a result, they would leave your content?

It’s all related with clarity. If your writing can’t be understood, it won’t be read further. It won’t be appreciated and it won’t be remembered. Would you, the writer of an amazing piece, like that?

Writers’ Treasure is BackWriters’ Treasure is Back

After two and a half months of non-existence, Writers’ Treasure is now well and truly back. In fact, it will be stronger than it was previously, so you can now expect to see at least one post weekly (and sometimes even two).

The reason for no posts? Well, there wasn’t just one, there were many. First came the school exams, second came vacation (holidays), and third came a cough, cold and fever that happened thrice. Ouch.

But explanations are tiny, aggravating things, not to be bothered about (*as I’m sure you’ll agree*). What matters most is that Writers’ Treasure is now once more The Definitive Guide to Creative Writing Success, not a blog which is dead.
